All-Electric Toyota SUV Concept | Harlingen, TX
Toyota is committed globally to carbon neutrality by 2050, which means we should expect refined production processes at all Toyota plants and enhanced electric vehicles in the Toyota lineup, which will be available at Bert Ogden Toyota in Harlingen, Texas.
The next step toward that future: a brand-new all-electric SUV concept called the Toyota bZ4X Concept.
An Electric Future
Toyota plans to have 70 models across the globe with some form of electric power by 2025; that includes 15 battery electric vehicles. Of those 15, seven will be Toyota bZ models. The Toyota bZ brand is the automaker’s term for battery electric models.
Currently, the lineup of electrified vehicles from Toyota accounts for over 40 percent of all alternative powertrain models sold in the US, meaning Toyota is miles ahead of competitors like Chevrolet, Honda, and Ford. Alternative powertrain is an umbrella term for hybrids, plug-in hybrids, hydrogen fuel cell electrics, and battery electric models, like the new bZ4X Concept.
About the Model
The Toyota bZ4X Concept was developed in step with Subaru. It leverages the new e-TNGA BEV-dedicated platform, built around the famous reliability of Toyota and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive from Subaru. Hallmark features of the all-electric SUV concept from Toyota include a long wheelbase yet short overhangs. Inside, you’ll find plenty of interior space and increased visibility behind the wheel due to the low position of the instrument panel and the meters that are positioned above the steering wheel.
“The Toyota bZ4X Concept points to yet another option in our already robust electrified portfolio,” remarked Bob Carter, TMNA executive vice president of sales. “At Toyota, we are a human-centered company – the customer is our CEO and will ultimately decide which technologies will carry us toward a carbon neutral future. With investments and product offerings across the spectrum of electrification, we intend to be there with products and technologies that meet the diverse needs of customers around the world.”
Production of the Concept
Toyota does not have firm information about the future of the bZ4X Concept just yet. For now, we know that the battery electric model will be manufactured in China and Japan, but it should be sold globally, including here in the States, as early as the middle of 2022. For now, we must hold out for more product details specific to the US.
We at Bert Ogden Toyota in Harlingen, Texas, are excited by the innovations from Toyota and will keep you informed of what’s happening in the electrified lineup from Toyota.
