The 2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition 4×4 has arrived and is poised for off-road adventure. Hallmarks of this special edition Toyota Tacoma include ample storage, unique styling, lots of value (more features for an affordable price) and, above all else, an appetite for adventure.
Trail-Ready and Performance-Oriented
The 2022 Tacoma Trail Edition 4×4 is built on the Tacoma 4×4 Double Cab model. For this model year, it boasts multiple upgrades over previous years that boost performance. Chief among those updates is the additional lift in the front and rear, based on the best-selling SR5 trim level. Up front, the Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition 4×4 benefits from a 1.1-inch front suspension lift; in the rear, it gets a 0.5-inch rear suspension lift.
The front suspension lift comes from taller coil springs; this lift, combined with the removal of the air dam, improves the truck’s approach angle to 34 degrees. In the rear, Toyota added a spacer between the leaf springs and the rear axle housing, which affords the rear suspension lift. This improves the truck’s departure angle to 23.6 degrees. With these changes, the breakover angle is now 26.4 degrees.
Further improving the off-road performance of the 2022 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition 4×4 is the standard locking rear differential. This improves traction in slow-speed four-wheel-drive situations, aka off-road climbs and descents. For additional protection beneath, the Trail Edition also benefits from undercarriage skid plates, taken from the TRD Off-Road trim.
Under the hood, the 2022 Tacoma Trail Edition 4×4 boasts a 3.5-liter V6 engine, good for 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. And of course, with a V6, the Tacoma model comes with the Tow Package, enabling up to 6,400 pounds of towing capacity when properly equipped.
Standard Safety
The new Tacoma Trail Edition 4×4 is all about performance, but safety doesn’t take a back seat. All Toyota Safety Sense™ P technologies come standard, including High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Automatic High Beams, Lane Departure Alert, and the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection.
On the Outside
New for the 2022 Tacoma Trail Edition 4×4 is the Lunar Rock exterior color. But that’s not your only choice; returning colors include Super White, Midnight Black Metallic, and Army Green.
On the front of the Toyota special edition model is the heritage-inspired grille with bronze-colored lettering, to match the bronze-colored wheels, wrapped in Goodyear all-terrain tires.
The truck bed’s versatility is a key selling point for the Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition 4×4. This Tacoma model boasts lockable bed storage; the driver’s side storage boasts insulation and can even act as a cooler for those long days off-roading. In the bed, you’ll also find a 120V power outlet.
